GPS GOLF CADDY
When you turn on a handheld golf GPS, something magical
happens. You little handheld gps unit begins to
communicate and lock into a network of up to 24
satellites. It then loads images of your favorite golf
course, the course information, par/slope ratings, electronic
scorecard, and then determines your exact position.
Best of all, it also pinpoints the positions of all your
targets on the golf course and automatically calculates the
distances to them. This is critical for club selection
and determining swing strength for each hole. Just like a
live personal golf caddy, this GPS Golf Caddy, can be your
personal scorekeeper, coach, and expert in the greens and
fairways. It can also keep your buddies scores and give
you a post game analysis at the 19th hole if you like!
Prices for a dependable unit can range from $300 to over
$500 depending on the features and dependability desired.
Your GPS unit should come with some minimum features to be
fully functional and upgradeable. After all, you invested
your hard earned money into lessons, clubs, ball, hats,
etc. Why not spend a little more on your one time
investment, and get a decent GPS golf caddy? It will be
well worth the money! So let's look at a few
features that are considered must have, and some that are
optional.
Color Screen: Any unit over $300 is bound to have a
color screen, and while it's nice, it isn't a must! Color
TVs are a must but do you really want to watch a black and
white TV?
Internal Memory: This is usually expressed in "number of
courses". 20 courses is acceptable, and courses are
usually downloaded from the manufacturers site. Some
units hold hundreds of courses
Membership: This is a royal pain and we believe that
if you buy the GPS, they should give you the courses.
We'll they do . . . at least some. However, as you
play elsewhere, you probably will have to download the courses
at $5 or $10 bucks a pop. Hey, they don't give away the
maps on car GPS units either. Also, make sure that
particular manufacterer has your favorite courses
available!
Fly Over View: This is an awesome feature! Looks
great to give you an overview, but is it really
necessary? You decide!
Multiple Waypoints: Critical. You have to know
you distance to the pin from everywhere, as well as the
distance to everypoint on the fairway from your current
position. A real caddy would tell you, so should your GPS
golf caddy.
Digital Scorecard: Critical. Who wants to carry
paper and a pencil? Thats half the reason your buying a
GPS golf caddy! This feature is pretty standard on
units over $300 anyway.
Post Game Analysis: We believe this is a must have
feature, and is standard on most units over $300. It can
tell you how many holes you made in regulation, how far you hit
each club, and more. It can really make you play a
smarter game and is well worth the money. Other
Considerations: You might want your GPS golf caddy to
have pushcart attachment brackets, or belt clips, a
rechargeable battery, and leather case too!
